ATLAS and the HESPERIDES, the SUNSET GODDESSES (fine art poster)

In Greek mythology, Atlas (Greek: Ἄτλας) is the primordial Titan who holds up the celestial sphere. He is also the god of astronomy and navigation.
The myth describes him as an astronomer who is telling the humans about the secrets of the sky.

His daughters are called Hesperides (Greek: Ἑσπερίδες). They are nymphs who tend a blissful garden in a far western corner of the world, located near the the Atlas mountains in North Africa.

Their garden is an orchard, where immortality-giving golden apples grew.
In later years it was thought that the “golden apples” might have actually been oranges, a fruit unknown to Europe and the Mediterranean before the Middle Ages.

This poster was inspired by the painting “Atlas and the Hesperides” from John Singer Sargent in 1925.

Each print is hand signed and dated.
