Artemis

Artemis (Roman equivalent: Diana) is one of the most widely venerated of the Ancient Greek deities. Some scholars believe that this goddess is originally pre-Greek.
In the classical period of Greek mythology, she is often described as the daughter of Zeus (Roman equivalent: Jupiter) and Leto (Roman equivalent: Latona), and the twin sister of Apollo, the god of sunlight. Artemis is the Hellenic goddess of the hunt, the moon, wild animals, wilderness, childbirth, virginity and protector of young girls, bringing and relieving disease for women.
The goddess of forests and hills was worshipped all over ancient Greece. Her best known cults were on the island of Delos (her birthplace), in Attica at Brauron and Mounikhia (near Piraeus), and in Sparta. She is often depicted in paintings and statues in a forest setting, carrying a bow and arrows, and accompanied by a deer.
