Triumph of Ariadne

Illustration in Art Nouveau style of Ariadne.
Ariadne is mostly associated with mazes and labyrinths, due to her involvement in the myths of the Minotaur and Theseus. In other stories, she became the bride of the god Dionysos. Some say she is mortal, some say she is a goddess. In Crete she has been worshipped as the goddess of fertility. The meaning of her name is “most holy”.

A lot of times in the past, Ariadne has been a big issue in the literature, the fine arts and in music.
One example is the historical painting “Triumph of Ariadne” by Hans Makart, made in 1874.
This title was the inspiration of our illustration, but the poster shows sth. different. The old painting portrays Ariadne together with a lot of mythical creatures, our picture portrays only her, making a toast.
